Pearl “Pearly” Ni’ihau Batalona, 73, of Honokaa, died May 11 at Hale Ho’ola Hamakua. Born in Waipio Valley, she was retired from the Hamakua Sugar Plantation and was the first female heavy equipment operator on the plantation, served as a planning commissioner for the Hawaii County under Mayor Herbert Matayoshi, secretary and member of ILWU Local 142 and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Honokaa Ward and Relief Society. Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Honokaa. Funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Kukuihaele County Cemetery. Casual attire.
