HONOLULU (AP) — A progressive group based in Washington is endorsing U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz in his U.S. Senate race in Hawaii.
The Progressive Change Campaign Committee said Tuesday that Schatz was one of the first lawmakers to support expanding social security benefits.
The group’s cofounders said they are impressed by Schatz’ leadership on climate issues and his ability to think strategically and plan effectively.
Schatz is running against U.S. Rep. Colleen Hanabusa for the seat vacated by Sen. Daniel Inouye when he died in 2012.
The group has nearly 4,300 members.
