Hilo couldn’t muster any offense and fell in the first round at the Hawaii High School Athletic Association state tournament.
Kapolei defeated the Vikings 3-0 on Wednesday in a boys Division I game at Oahu’s Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex.
The Vikings (10-5-1), the Big Island Interscholastic Federation runner-up, play Pearl City (11-3) at 1 p.m. in a consolation elimination match.
CJ Harvey scored two goals at the 12th and 33rd minute marks for the Hurricanes (13-3), the Oahu Interscholastic Association’s No. 4 team. Marcelo Dadino added Kapolei’s other score at the 18th minute mark.
The Vikings were the only team, among the opening day’s eight, to not net a score. They also lost by the widest margin.
Three-time BIIF champion Kealakehe (14-0-1) plays Kamehameha-Maui (10-0-3) in the quarterfinals at 1 p.m. today at the main stadium field. The Maui Warriors beat Mililani 2-0.
In Division II today in the quarterfinals, No. 2 seed and BIIF champion Hawaii Prep (10-3-3) plays Leilehua (5-7) at 1 p.m. Christian Liberty (11-4) faces No. 4 Roosevelt (7-5) at 3 p.m. and Honokaa (9-3-3) takes on No. 1 Kapaa (11-1) at 3 p.m.
Kapaa is the defending state champion. Honokaa won the title the previous two years.
