Hospice of Hilo will continue its monthly speaker series, “A Few of Life’s Questions,” on Wednesday, July 24, with a talk by experienced grief counselor Aaron Yamasaki, MDiv, titled “What’s Your Caregiving Style?”
“Just like there are many different types of personalities, there are many different caregiver styles; examples being rescuer, enabler and empowerer,” Yamasaki said. “Knowing your caregiver style influences the care you provide and how to be the caregiver you need and want to be.”
Yamasaki goes on explain that good intentions may fall short when caregivers’ styles do not match the emotional needs of the loved ones receiving support. Knowing one’s caregiver style and posture can make all the difference in how people feel cared for.
The workshop, which runs from 4:30-6 p.m., will help participants learn their caring style and practical ways to be supportive. The event is free, open to public and will be held at 1011 Waianuenue Ave.
Since 1983, Hospice of Hilo has been meeting the end-of-life, palliative care and bereavement needs for the East and South portions of the Big Island.
