Shinichi Kaneshiro, 85, of Hilo died April 11 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Hakalau, he was a retired papaya inspector with the state Department of Agriculture, macadamia nut farmer and 50-year volunteer weather observer for the National Weather Service. He was also a member of Hui Okinawa, Hawaii Government Employees Association, Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, and past member of Young Farmers Association and Hilo Macadamia Nut Association. Visitation will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo; memorial service at 3:30 p.m. Casual attire. Howard Warren Butler, 75, of Hilo died April 4 at the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in St. Louis, he was a retired U.S. Army medic.
