Roadwork on Kilauea Avenue in Hilo will continue this week between Pauahi Street and Alenai‘o Bridge, according to a written statement from the county Department of Public Works.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, the final asphalt layer will be applied to the makai lane, and on Wednesday, to the mauka lane. Street parking will be restored on Wednesday, after completion of the roadwork.
During construction Monday-Friday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. the traffic pattern will be a single lane for Puna-bound travel between Pauahi and Aupuni streets. Motorists traveling in the Hamakua direction will be re-routed at Aupuni Street. Left turns will be allowed onto Pauahi from Aupuni Street only during construction hours. Left turns will be permitted onto Kilauea Avenue from Aupuni Street. Right turns will not.
On Thursday and Friday, road resurfacing will start at Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin to Kukuau Street and continue to Osorio Lane. Street parking will be restored on Friday, after completion of the roadwork.
Roadwork is weather permitting. Traffic patterns may change.
