Senior guard Shaun Kagawa led all scorers with 23 points at Koaia Gym as Kamehameha rode a strong start to beat Waiakea 63-59 on Monday night in a Big Island Interscholastic Federation Division I boys basketball game.
Senior Ilikai Calip finished with 12 points and junior Rylan Kiko added 10 for Kamehameha (2-1), which led 39-21 at halftime. Junior Laa Manliguis chipped in with nine points.
Senior Owen Sandstrom led Waiakea (0-1) with 19 points. Junior Dillon Rellez scored 15 points and sophomore Mark Pacris had 12.

Keaau 59, Pahoa 55: Junior Edgar Ventura scored 20 points as the Cougars won on the road in their season opener.
Senior Davin Alviento added 15 points for Division Keaau, which led by one point at halftime.
The Division II Daggers (1-1) lost despite a game-high 29 points from senior Nick Fisher. Sophomore Tolby Saito had 12 points.
In junior varsity, Keaau won 41-39.

HAAS fell to 0-9.
