The Fountain Gallery at Wailoa Arts & Cultural Center will be presenting 77 different breeds of dogs in one small space and — surprisingly — they will all get along.
The exhibit is the work of Hawaii artist William Gilliam, whose Canine Portrait Project began in January 2011 with $5,000 he raised through Kickstarter. His goal is to paint 150 dogs, about the same number recognized by the AKC, with a few mutts too, in eight months and publish a book of the portraits through Lulu.
A percentage of the portrait and book sales will go to the Hawaii Island Humane Society. The portraits will be on display July 6-26, with an opening reception for the artist on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m.
