It came down to a Waiakea sister act between freshman Lacey Uchida and senior Kaelyn Uchida in what was the first close encounter on the golf course.
Lacey Uchida shot a 10-over 82 in a BIIF meet on Wednesday at the Waikoloa Kings course, beating her sister by a single shot.
Waiakea’s depth dominated again.
Jillian Mitsuda was third at 84 to help the Warriors win their second straight team title.
No. 4 starter Tori Hironaga finished at 87. (Only the top three scores count toward the team standings.)
Two-time BIIF champion Kaley Saludares didn’t compete, and Kailey Oki, Tia Kualii, and Mari Ebersole, the defending BIIF champion, couldn’t crack the starting lineup.
Oki, who shared BIIF medalist honors at Hilo Muni with Lacey Uchida, shot an 86. Kualii finished at 84, and Ebersole had an 83 on the junior varsity level.
Hilo’s Chanelle Hwang shot an 88 to lead Hilo, which finished in second place, 43 strokes behind Waiakea.
For the boys, Waiakea sophomore and defending BIIF champion Isaiah Kanno shot a 77 to take medalist honors.
Hilo’s Riley Kaneshiro and Ethan Hironaga tied for second at 84. Waiakea’s Kobe Toledo carded an 85, and Kamehameha freshman Dillon Ah Chong, who won at Hilo Muni, had an 86.
Waiakea captured its second team title with a 345 total, 20 shots ahead of Hilo.
The next BIIF meet is Monday, March 26 at Hokulia.
