KAILUA-KONA — An Alaska woman accused of hitting her boyfriend with a rental car in December was indicted by a Kona grand jury Monday on an attempted murder charge.
Crystal Young, 30, faces charges of second-degree attempted murder and accident involving death or serious bodily injury. If convicted, she faces a mandatory minimum period of imprisonment without the possibility of parole because she would be considered a repeat felony offender.
The indictment states Young was convicted in Alaska of second-degree theft, tampering with physical evidence and third-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance. All three offenses are class C felonies.
The indictment stems from an incident on Dec. 15, 2017, at Old Kona Airport Park in Kailua-Kona.
Young was involved in a domestic dispute with her boyfriend, a 36-year-old man also visiting from Alaska. She reportedly was “driving reckless” while the man was outside the car, said Hawaii Police Department Maj. Robert Wagner at the time of the incident.
Young allegedly struck the man with the car, causing significant injuries to his body and head.
Young then drove to the north end of the park and fled on foot into the brush area, where she was later located by authorities.
Young’s boyfriend eventually flown to The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu in critical condition. On Tuesday, Wagner said the victim is doing better but “might have long-term damage/injury.”
Young’s next court hearing is Feb. 21. She remains in custody at Hawaii Community Correctional Center.

To bad she’s not a local Ice head. She would be on the streets already. Must suck when your not related to someone.
Interestingly (to me), her hair color-matches the various magenta and purple advertising on this page. Her defense team should claim she had unknowingly rented a car possessed by demons.
If it was a tweaker in a stolen Toyota, she would be back in Alaska already…
