Sidney Jiro Kanno, 75, of Kailua-Kona died Sept. 20 at home. Born in Hilo, he was a retired assistant director of operations for the county Department of Parks and Recreation, Elderly Activities Division, competitive swimmer, surfer, skin diver, lifelong practitioner of the martial arts — karate, bo, tai chi chuan and baduanjin — and devoted, loving father. Private services will be held, as well as a celebration of life at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, at Hawaii Big Game Fishing Club at Honokohau Small Boat Harbor. Survived by daughters, Kristine Kanno (James Bunyan) of Washington and Stephanie (Todd) Munn of Oahu; sister, Jo Ann (William) Taylor of Texas; a grandson; cousins, nieces and nephews.
