Fire in downtown apartment confined to burning bed

Four units from the Hilo Central Fire Station responded Wednesday night to a fire at the nearby Lincoln Courtside Apartments on Kinoole Street.

A third-story unit in the three-story apartment building was filled with smoke. As it turned out, the fire was confined to a smoldering mattress and box spring in a bedroom of the unit.

Those were removed from the building, and the fire extinguished. The unit was ventilated.

There were no injuries and no damage reported, other than to the bed. The building wasn’t evacuated.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
