Man arrested after violent domestic incident

Police arrested and charged 58-year-old David Scott Paulino on Wednesday for various criminal offenses after responding to a domestic incident that occurred early Sunday morning on Ululani Street in Hilo.

During the incident, Paulino allegedly struck the female victim several times, strangled her, sexually assaulted her, threatened her with a knife, and took her phone away while she attempted to call police.

On Wednesday morning, after conferring with the county prosecutors office, detectives charged Paulino with two counts of abuse of family household member, two counts of first-degree sex assault, first-degree terroristic threatening, and interfering with reporting an emergency or crime.

His bail was set at $123,000.

Paulino remains in police custody pending his initial court appearance today in Hilo District Court.
