Hit-and-run traffic victim dies

Police say a woman pedestrian struck in a hit-and-run traffic collision Wednesday near the Hilo police station has died.

Carrie Ikawa, 64, of Hilo died at 1:46 p.m. Thursday at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu.

The investigation has been re-classified from negligent injury to negligent homicide.

Ikawa’s death is the 16th official traffic fatality this year compared to nine at this time last year.
