AOC and the future
This is a response to Fred Fogel (Your Views, Oct. 6).
Fred, banning drive-thrus is just a first step. Sure, it is a small reduction in carbon, but every little bit helps.
Your efforts are most appreciated — the electric car, planting trees and the reduction of flatulence is really appreciated. The okole plugs for cattle may get you into trouble with the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, and we don’t want to have any safety issues with exploding cows.
World-renowned climate expert, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, or AOC, stated that we had only 12 years left in 2019. Now, it’s only 10 years until the end of the world. If AOC said it, you know it’s true.
According to AOC’s schedule, spending trillions of dollars is really cheap for preventing the end of the world, and if it doesn’t work, we don’t have to pay the money back.
If it does work, I’m sure our future generations won’t mind paying all that money back.
This is the best time to be a senior citizen.

We no longer elect leaders. We simply elect the next opportunist who convinces us he will give us the most “free” stuff. A
And, no, it is not simply a Democrat versus Republican thing. For decades, we have spent more than we earn, no matter who was in office. It has become the American way and an American right.
We can’t imagine life without the government artificially pumping fake money into the economy to keep us happy like drug addicts waiting for our next fix.
Obviously, as much as we complain about the low level of politicians we get, that is who we constantly vote for. And, like most people who fall for scams, we love that something-for-nothing political promise.
As we vote for burying this country in more debt, election after election, the price will be paid by our children and grandchildren.
But who cares. They don’t vote.

Regarding
‘Freedom Rally’
I, for one, am getting very, very tired of anti-health protesters making it look like sound medical practice is somehow the enemy (“Hilo Freedom Rally draws hundreds,” Tribune-Herald, Sept. 19).
Sweets Gacayan and his ilk keep demanding free choice (which is obviously failing), while denying free choice for their keiki and kupuna, who could have their lives saved and their futures assured by prudent, responsible actions.
Their selfish and ill-informed choices make it much more difficult for people who do understand the real and long-lasting damage this pandemic is causing, to protect and nurture their own families, and to help our small island community to thrive personally, socially and economically.
