The state Department of Health today has reported another 571 new COVID-19 cases, including 107 on the Big Island.
On Sunday, 893 cases were reported statewide, 158 of which were on the Big Island.
The number of cases reported on Hawaii Island since the start of the pandemic now totals 6,556, according to the DOH.
An average of 674 new cases have been reported daily Aug. 14-20.
Hawaii County’s 8% test positivity rate is just below the statewide positivity rate of 8.1%. The City and County of Honolulu has the highest test positivity rate in the state at 9.4%.
According to data from the DOH, 447 cases have been reported in Hilo and 396 infections have been confirmed in Kailua-Kona in the past 14 days.
During that same time period, there have been 61 cases in Pahoa; 144 in Keaau, 55 in Mountain View; 57 in the Captain Cook, Ocean View and Honaunau areas; 98 in Waimea; and 69 in the Waikoloa Village and Puako areas.
The current surge is driven by the highly transmissible Delta variant.
As of Monday, 62% of Hawaii’s population has been fully vaccinated against the novel coronavirus.
In Hawaii County, 58% of resident have been fully vaccinated while 70% have received at least one dose.
More than 70% of residents in Papaikou, Pepeekeo, Honokaa and Hawi have been fully vaccinated, along with 60.1%-70% of residents in Hilo and Kealakekua.
With less than 35% of people fully inoculated, Mountain View, Pahala and Ocean View have the lowest vaccination rates on the island.

COVID-19 testing will be offered from noon to 4 p.m. today at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium. Depending on demand, gates may close sooner.
