A day after being proposed by Mayor Harry Kim, the county implemented Emergency Rule 11, which reduces social gathering group sizes, both indoors and outdoors, to no more than 10 people.
The rule also limits the number of people allowed to participate in sports practices to 25 and participants in competitive play to 50.
Friday also saw five new COVID-19 cases on the Big Island, bringing the total number of cases in Hawaii County to 177.
Throughout the state, 230 new cases were reported, bringing the statewide total to 6,072. There also was one more death, bringing the total to 46.
