Brad Nakamura, 18, of Scouts BSA (formerly Boy Scouts of America) Troop 23 was presented the organizations highest rank of Eagle Scout during a Court of Honor on Aug. 11 at Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuins Sangha Hall in Hilo, the sponsor of Troop 23.
Brad Nakamura, 18, of Scouts BSA (formerly Boy Scouts of America) Troop 23 was presented the organization’s highest rank of Eagle Scout during a Court of Honor on Aug. 11 at Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin’s Sangha Hall in Hilo, the sponsor of Troop 23.
Fewer than 4% of all Scouts in the United States have achieved the coveted Eagle rank since inception of the Scouting program in 1912.
An Eagle Scout exhibits superior leadership qualities and selfless behavior toward others. Nakamura served as an assistant senior patrol leader, senior patrol leader and a troop guide during his journey to becoming an Eagle Scout.
He thinks learning and living by the Scouting values of a Scout being trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrift, brave, clean and reverent have served as his most memorable experience in scouting.
Nakamura’s Eagle Scout service project consisted of constructing six gardening beds at E.B. de Silva Elementary School in Kaumana.
He is a sophomore at Seattle University, where he is majoring in computer science, is a member of the university’s Computer Science Club and serves as vice president of the Circle K Club. Nakamura is the son of Dr. and Mrs. David and Nadine Nakamura of Hilo.
