Born in Honokaa, he was a senior cane truck driver with the former Honokaa Sugar Plantation, landscaper at the Mauna Lani Resort, produce clerk at Foodland Farms at Mauna Lani, member of the Hamakua Jaycees, president of the Hamakua Archery Club and Mauna Lani Archery Club and the lead singer of the Hamakua Braddas.
