Howard Kalani Alapai Sr., 78, of Puuanahulu died May 13 at home. Born in Kealakekua, he was a retired heavy equipment operator, owner of Westside Trucking Co., Puuwaa Ranch hand and member of Natural High softball team and Operating Engineers Union Local 3. Celebration of life 9 a.m. Saturday, June 1, at Puuanahulu Recreation Center. Casual attire; no flowers. Survived by wife, Mary Alapai of Puuanahulu; sons, Howard Alapai Jr. and Kaleo (Lynell) Alapai of Puuanahulu, Shane (Mercy) Alapai of Denver, Alika (Grace) Alapai of Puuanahulu; daughters, Selena Alapai of Puuanahulu and Anne (Rodney) Hose of Holualoa; hanai sons, Puggy (Malia) Gaspar of Napoopoo and Joe Padillio of Kailua-Kona; brothers, George Alapai and Howard K.K. (Marilee) Alapai of Kailua-Kona; sister, Barbara Tremaine of Waikoloa; sister-in-law, Sally Alapai of Kailua-Kona; 21 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
