Takeshi “Kawa” Kawamoto, 86, of Papaikou died March 17 at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Papaikou, he was a retired diesel mechanic for the former Yamada Transfer, member of Papaikou Hongwanji Mission, UsTOO East Hawaii, International Longshore and Warehouse Union Hilo Pension Club, Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home Adult Daycare, and U.S. Army Korean War veteran. Visitation 4-5 p.m. Monday (March 25) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Memorial service at 5 p.m. Graveside urn committal services 9 a.m. Wednesday (March 27) at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire. Survived by wife, Shigeno “Shirley” Oba Kawamoto of Papaikou; sons, Floyd (Lauren Oie) Kawamoto of Hilo and Earl Kawamoto of Papaikou; daughter, Lois (George Makua) Giraud of Hilo; brothers, Tsutomu Kawamoto and Raymond (Diane) Kawamoto of Hilo; sisters, Mitsuko Tomono of Volcano and Masako Shimasaki of Hilo; a granddaughter, a grandson and a great-grandson; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
