Pilgrimage to the Vatican

Pope Francis attends a Mass with some of the participants of the Via Francigena pilgrimage to St. Peter’s tomb inside St. Peter’s Basilica on Thursday at the Vatican. According to Wikipedia, the Via Francigena is the common name of an ancient road and pilgrimage route to Rome that passes through England, France, Switzerland and Italy. In medieval times, it was an important road and pilgrimage route for those wanting to visit the Holy See and the tombs of apostles Peter and Paul. Today, some pilgrims still follow the route, although there are far less.
