During the week of April 6-12, Hawaii Island police arrested 23 motorists for DUI. Thirteen of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One was younger than 21.

So far this year, there have been 242 DUI arrests compared to 273 during the same period last year, a decrease of 11.36%.

According to police, there were 284 major crashes so far this year, compared with 286 major crashes during the same time last year, a decrease of 0.7%.

As of April 12, there have been four fatalities compared to 10 fatalities for the same time last year, a decrease of 60%.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
