The Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) winter sports season continued Tuesday with boys soccer playoffs and basketball games. The season continues today with the BIIF Division II Boys Soccer Championship and more regular season hoops action.
Soccer
Defending Division-II state champion Kamehameha routed the Makua Lani boys in the BIIF semifinal against Makua Lani Christian Academy, winning 10-0. Over the last two games, the Warriors have scored 27 goals.
KSH improved to 8-1-2, while the Lions’ season concluded with a 0-8-0 record. It was the second time the winners beat MLCA this season.
Micah Chung continued his dominant season, securing a hat trick. On the year, Chung has scored 15 goals and logged five matches with multiple scores.
Chung’s teammates — Jack Henderson and Iopa Quintana — scored two goals each. Gabriel Arquitola, Zyan Subica and Kanoa Honda scored one goal each.
On the season, the Warriors have a 47-9 goal differential.
On the other side of the bracket, Hawaii Preparatory Academy shut out Honoka‘a 9-0 to advance to this afternoon’s championship against Kamehameha. It was Ka Makani’s sixth shutout of the season.
HPA improved to 7-3-0 with a 35-7 goal differential. When Ka Makani last matched up with the Warriors in the early season, KSH won 1-0.
The Dragons’ season ended at 1-7.

Basketball
Kohala guard Layden Kauka scored 30-or-more points for the fifth straight game in the Cowboys’ rout of the hosting Dragons inside the Honoka‘a Armory. The black and gold won 77-51 to close the regular season 12-0 against the BIIF and 20-4 overall.
Kauka scored 41 points on 62% shooting — his second 40-point game of 2025-26. The future UH-Hilo guard is averaging over 26 points per game in his final season. Freshmen teammates Sheldon Emeliano Jr. and James Wong combined for 25.
On the season, the Cowboys average 72 points per game against the BIIF while allowing 37.6. They’ve scored at least 70 points nine times.
The Dragons dropped to 8-6 overall. Both teams are expected to be major contenders for the BIIF DII crown, and their playoff seeding is yet to be set. Playoffs begin this weekend.
After dropping its previous four games, the HPA boys got back in the win column after a 51-39 victory over Waiakea in Hilo. It was the first and final matchup between the two programs.
Ka Makani (7-8 overall) was led by Kingdon Simmons and Micah Yamasaki, who combined for 23 points. Max Aiona and Ekolu Kailliawa combined for 17. HPA averages nearly 48 points per game.
The Warriors (0-10) were led by swingman Janzen Hough, who scored 18 points. Hough averages 10 points per game, and the team as a whole averages 39.1.
HPA will rematch Honoka‘a tonight inside Castle Gymnasium. When the two teams last played on Saturday, the Dragons escaped 52-50.
Waiakea will host Kealakehe tonight.
The Parker boys entered the win column after dropping their prior two games, routing Christian Liberty Academy 70-30 in Waimea. The Bulls improved to 4-5 overall, whereas the Canefire fell to 1-6.
It was the second time Parker beat CLA this season. The Bulls score nearly 45 points per game, while the Canefire average under 30.
Parker’s next matchup is to be determined, but CLA will be back in action against Ka‘u tonight in Pahala. When the two teams last faced off on Jan. 12, the Trojans won 69-31.
