A structure fire heavily damaged a home on Ala Aka Street in Napoopoo on Saturday evening.

According to a Hawaii Fire Department statement, six units responded to the 6:06 p.m. alarm, with the first unit arriving on scene eight minutes later.

Arriving firefighters were met by heavy black smoke and flames coming from three sides of the house. Neighbors were helping the homeowners battle the blaze with garden hoses.

The fire was reported under control at 6:25 p.m. and extinguished at 6:54 p.m.

No injuries were reported.

According to the fire department, the most damage was by the house’s breaker box.

Losses from the fire were estimated at 80% of the property value, or $252,000. Firefighters were able to save about 20%, or $63,000, in property value.
