With multiple pushes of moisture expected, parts of the region could see continuous soggy weather through Friday, and a risk of flooding that could increase as the ground becomes increasingly saturated.

Through Friday, the coastal mountains are expected to record 6 to 15 inches of rain, and the northern Sierra Nevada could see multiple feet of snow, according to the Weather Prediction Center.

Snow fell in the Sierra Nevada and Cascade ranges Saturday, but only at the highest elevations, as the system that is pulling in moisture from the subtropics near Hawaii is warm. This kind of atmospheric river is often referred to as a pineapple express.

The Pacific Northwest is also picking up some precipitation and off-and-on rain and snow.

Bitcoin slides below $100,000 as tariffs rattle world markets

SINGAPORE (Reuters) — Cryptocurrency prices slid as the spectre of a global trade war put investors on edge and pushed them out of risky assets.

Bitcoin was down more 4% early on Monday morning in Asia, touching a three-week low around $96,606. Smaller cryptocurrency ether was down around 12% and back to levels last seen in early November.

Over the weekend, U.S. President Donald Trump imposed 25% tariffs on Mexican and most Canadian imports, and 10% on goods from China, starting on Tuesday.

Cryptocurrencies trade around the clock, including on weekends, and have lately been sensitive to markets’ broader sentiment.

Ukraine says at least 18 civilians are killed in strikes

(NYT) — Ukrainian authorities said Sunday that two airstrikes a day earlier had killed at least 18 civilians, one of the highest single-day tolls so far this year. The first strike occurred Saturday morning when a Russian missile hit a residential building in the Ukrainian city of Poltava, nearly 150 miles from the front lines, killing at least 14 people, including two children, according to local emergency services. A few hours later, Ukrainian authorities said a Russian bomb had smashed into a boarding school in Sudzha, a town in western Russia that is under Ukrainian control, killing four people. The Russian Defense Ministry blamed Ukraine for the strike in Sudzha.
