4.1-magnitude quake jolts Ka‘u

A magnitude 4.1 earthquake occurred at 1:43 p.m. Friday nine miles east-southeast of Naalehu at a depth of 23 miles below sea level, according to the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.

The earthquake had no apparent impact on either Mauna Loa or Kilauea volcanoes, HVO said, but aftershocks are possible in the coming days to weeks.

This earthquake is part of the seismic swarm under the Pahala area, which has been going on since 2019.

HVO continues to monitor the volcanoes for any changes.
