KEALAKEHE — The Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) continued to open its girls soccer season over the weekend on the west side of the island — as Kealakehe fell to Hilo 6-0 in a sunny Saturday bout at Waverider Stadium.

The Vikings (1-0) played aggressive defense at midfield all match, leading the team to control the majority of posession time and five different playing scoring.
In the opening half, La‘aulu Kalauoka’ae a-Kahele (11th minute), Naliipoaimoku Harman (15th minute) and Sera Varize (34th minute) scored for Hilo. The second half was much of the same, as Aneala Sibayan chipped in two goals (46th minute, 66th minute) and Maiya Kepoo-DeConte added one more (73rd minute) for Hilo.
While Kealakehe fought hard, the team suffered a multitude of injuries throughout the match.
“Hilo played great; we are challenged and have a lot of work to do,” Waveriders coach John Edwards told West Hawaii Today postgame. “Always hard with a thin team.”
Kealakehe (0-1) will next travel north to play HPA at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Waimea, while the Vikings will host Honoka‘a at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Wong Stadium.

Hawaii Prep girls soccer fell 1-0 to Kamehameha Schools Hawai‘i in its BIIF opener on Friday in Kea‘au.
Warriors’ Rhacelyn Respicio scored the lone goal in the 32nd minute.
HPA (0-1) will next host Kealakehe on Wednesday in Waimea, while KSH will host Honoka‘a on Dec. 12 in Kea‘au.
