Civil Defense: Red Flag Warning continues

Outdoor flames and open burning are prohibited in Ka‘u and West Hawaii as a National Weather Service Red Flag Warning remains in effect.

According to the Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency a Red Flag Warning is in effect for North and South Kohala, Kona and Ka‘u districts today, while a Wind Advisory is in effect for the same area as well as Hamakua and Puna.

The combination of strong winds, low humidity and dry vegetation has created conditions extremely conducive for the spread of wildfires. As such, Civil Defense has imposed emergency rules banning all outdoor burning and outdoor open flames in the North and South Kohala, Kona and Ka‘u districts today.

Civil Defense will issue further notifications as events warrant.
