Get this fixed
How much longer must we wait for HI-5 recycling to begin at the transfer stations again?
I resent paying the fee at point-of-purchase, only to be unable to do the right thing and recycle the items.
It is not reasonable to expect people in areas far from Hilo to spend so much time and money to bring this type of recycling to a location near Hilo or Pahoa. Meanwhile, nonredeemable plastics continue to go to the landfill, as does most glass.
This is an irresponsible and unsustainable problem. Hawaii County, get it together and fix this!

On a recent weekend I ended up in the Hilo Medical Center ER with a potentially serious and very painful medical issue.
From the first moment I arrived in the ER, through surgery and recovery, I was fortunate to discover how lucky we all are to have Hilo Medical Center.
I wish I could remember all the names of the staff that contributed to my care.
Without exception, they were professional and caring. I am grateful to you all.
For anyone headed to the hospital in the future, the staff at Hilo Medical Center know what they are doing and do it very well.
Mahalo to our veterans benefits counselor here in Hilo. Wishing you a well-deserved retirement.
You had patience, are very knowledgeable, helpful always, with a good attitude. You will be missed by myself, my brother and all the veterans you helped with our disability claims.
Good luck, God bless and aloha, Mr. Reginald “Reggie” Alexander.
Stop the stealing
Our lawmakers and our police department need to do more to stop all this stealing of cars and trucks.
And judges, they’re too soft on these people who steal. They need to be more strict with them. Lock them up, and get them some help. But no, they just let them go.
But maybe if these people would steal from the judges and police and lawmakers, they might do something.
Why wait for that to happen? Do it now.
