More than a dozen soldiers from the 25th Infantry Division, 3rd Battalion, 7th Field Artillery Regiment on May 16-17 volunteered to clean up the beach area of the Pu‘ukohola Heiau National Historic Site in West Hawaii.
More than a dozen soldiers from the 25th Infantry Division, 3rd Battalion, 7th Field Artillery Regiment on May 16-17 volunteered to clean up the beach area of the Pu‘ukohola Heiau National Historic Site in West Hawaii.
The soldiers received a history presentation by park ranger George Enuton prior to performing the community service project.
“This was a special treat because visitors usually just watch a video in the visitor center,” according to an Army press release.
According to Enuton, the cleanup effort was in preparation for an upcoming public festival in August.
“We’re very grateful for the Army soldiers to be part of cleaning up the park,” William Akima, with the Heiau Resource Management section, said in the press release.
“As partners of conservation, (the 3rd Battalion, 7th Field Artillery Regiment) is committed to serving both our country and local community,” said Capt. Timothy Zimmerman.
The soldiers are based at Schofield Barracks, Oahu, and were on the Big Island training at the U.S. Army Garrison Pohakuloa Training Area.
