Police ID motorcyclist killed in crash

Police have identified the motorcycle rider who was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Sunday as 45-year-old Ryan Miras of Hilo.

According to police, at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Miras, who was riding a 2009 Honda motorcycle, rear-ended a 1997 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck that was stopped at a red light on Kanoelehua Avenue at the intersection of East Kawili Street.

The 32-year-old man driving the pickup truck wasn’t injured.

Police say speed and Miras not wearing a helmet are the two primary factors in the fatality. The crash is still under investigation.

Officer Clifford Antonio is the lead investigator and can be contacted at (808) 961-2339 or Clifford.Antonio@HawaiiCounty.gov. Those who prefer anonymity may call Crime Stoppers at (808) 961-8300.
