Five Big Island schools competed in the first regular season BIIF cheer competition on Wednesday evening.
Kealakehe scored 34.067 out of 50 points and placed first against Kamehameha, Hilo, Waiakea and Konawaena.
Scores are calculated by the difficulty and execution on stunts, pyramids, tumbling, jumps, dance and showmanship, and formations and transitions. Judges also score on prop usage, ability to lead the crowd, voice and flow of words, use of skills and execution of cheers and chants.
Kamehameha placed second with 31.107, Konawaena was third with 29.633, Waiakea placed fourth with 29.133 and Hilo High was last with 29.000 points.
The next competition will be the BIIF Championships at Waiakea High School at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27. The competition will decide the top three teams who will go to Oahu to compete in the HHSAA States Cheer Tournament.
