Brett Morgen — producer, director and editor of the new David Bowie documentary, “Moonage Daydream” — will introduce his film, with a Q&A afterward, for the film’s Big Island premiere at 7 p.m. this Friday at the Honokaa People’s Theatre.
The film will be free to the public courtesy of the Morgen family.
The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this year and has since been released in 40 countries worldwide. It is the highest-grossing documentary since 2019. It also is the highest-rated film in wide release on the reviews website, Metacritic. The film has been given more five-star reviews than any other documentary this year.
Morgen describes the film as “an immersive, kaleidoscopic experience” featuring the music of Bowie. Morgen emphasizes that this is not a traditional biographical documentary. The film was edited in his studio in Kukuihaele, and Kukuihaele is honored in its credits.
Morgen characterizes the film as having a spiritual foundation. He states that the film could not have been made anywhere other than Kukuihaele.
Morgen cautions that the movie is not appropriate for viewers under the age of 14.
