The Wailoa Center and the Hawai‘i Island Art Alliance are proud to present “Abstract Only!, the 12th Annual Multimedia National Juried Exhibition,” open now through Aug. 25, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday.
One of the longest running and most popular of Wailoa’s exhibitions, “Abstract Only!” has works from artists across the United States, as well as Hawaii Island artists.
This year’s exhibit was juried by local artist Lonny Tomono. Born and raised in Hawaii, Tomono is a sculptor, furniture maker and printmaker. His work is influenced by his time with Japanese temple craftsmen Makato Imai and Seichiro Kitamura. The culture, sensibilities, aesthetics and traditions reflected in the traditional woodcraft are evident in his work.
During the “Abstract Only!” exhibit, The Fountain Gallery at Wailoa Center will feature current work by Tomono.
Wailoa Center is free and open to the public, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday. The center is closed weekends and state holidays. For more information, please call (808) 933-0416 or email wailoaartculturalcenter@gmail.com.
