Hilo man to serve a minimum of 18 years for sexually assaulting minor
The Hawaii Paroling Authority has set an 18-year minimum prison term for a 46-year-old Hilo man convicted of sexually assaulting a minor girl.
Clifton John Kua pleaded guilty in October to continuous sex assault of a minor younger than 14 and also subjecting the same minor to sexual penetration after she had turned 14. The offenses took place between 2011 and 2017.
Kua was sentenced in December to 20 years in prison.
“We hope that this serves as a message that protecting our keiki from sexual predators is a top priority of our office,” County Prosecutor Kelden Waltjen said in a statement. “This prosecution reflects the commitment of our office and the Hawaii Police Department to hold offenders accountable for their actions and seek justice for these egregious offenses.”
