Philemon Kahanu Austria, 93, of Hilo died April 14 at Legacy Hilo Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Born in Haiku, Maui, he was retired from both the Hawaii Army National Guard and Hawaii County Police Department, a fisherman, photographer and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Visitation noon- 1 p.m. Thursday, May 19, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo. Funeral service at 1 p.m. Cremation to follow. Graveside urn committal service with military honors noon Tuesday, May 24, at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 pavilion. Casual attire. Survived by son, Wendell Austria of Kalapana; four grandchildren.
