Flights delayed due to security breach at Kona International Airport
A man spotted on security cameras scaling a wall at Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport, breaching a “sterile area,” Wednesday evening prompted more than 1,000 passengers to be re-screened.
At 6:18 p.m. Wednesday, the man was spotted on security cameras scaling a wall in the terminal area and entering a “sterile area,” where only screened passengers and employees should be, said Jai Cunningham, a spokesman for the state Department of Transportation.

Hawaii Police were notified and responded but the man was able to elude authorities. As of Thursday afternoon no arrest had been made.
The incident resulted in four flights being delayed about one to two hours, affecting 1,080 passengers, he said.
All passengers had to be re-screened by TSA, which began the process shortly after 9 p.m.
No one was hurt in the incident.
