Puna woman charged with auto theft

Police charged a 26-year-old Kurtistown woman in the theft of a Honda CRV reported stolen Jan. 6 from the parking lot of a Banyan Drive condominium.

Kalannie Monique Ramangmou Ada is charged with second-degree theft for the car, second-degree unauthorized entry to a motor vehicle and habitual property crime.

The most serious offenses, second-degree theft and habitual property crime are both Class C felonies, carrying a maximum sentence of five years in prison, upon conviction.

At Ada’s initial court appearance on Thursday, Hilo District Judge Kanani Laubach reduced her bail from $21,000 to $10,500 and ordered her to return at 2 p.m. Tuesday for a preliminary hearing.
