Gov. David Ige has released $365 million in capital improvement funds for Big Island and statewide projects:
• Americans with Disabilities Act and pedestrian improvements, various locations statewide; $2.05 million released; $10.25 million total project cost; various completion dates.
• Department of Public Safety projects, statewide; $19.72 million released; $30.04 million total project cost; various completion dates.
• Dwelling Unit Revolving Fund; affordable housing infusion for neighbor island counties, $50 million released; $50 million project cost.
• East Hawaii Historic Preservation Center; design for a new East Hawaii Historic Preservation Center; $500,000 released; $3 million project cost; December 2022 completion date.
• Hawaii Belt Road, Hakalau Stream Bridge rehabilitation; to finance land and design the project; $700,000 released; $3.5 million project cost; July 2024 completion date.
• Hawaii Island Portuguese Chamber of Commerce; construction of a Portuguese cultural and educational facility in Hilo; $150,000 released; $1.2 million project cost; September 2024 completion date.
• Highway safety improvement program, statewide; $4.3 million released; $25.04 million project cost; various completion dates.
• Hilo base yard bulk fuel tank installation for Division of Forestry and Wildlife base yard in Hilo; $80,000 released; $80,000 project cost; July 2022 completion date.
• Kamuela Vacuum Cooling Plant; demolition of a warehouse and clearing of environmental hazards at agricultural facility in Waimea; $700,000 released; $2.45 million project cost; December 2022 completion date.
• Ka‘u High and Pahala Elementary schools ADA improvements; $2 million released; $2 million project cost; July 2023 completion date.
• Ka‘u High and Pahala Elementary schools cafeteria; design and construction of replacement of chill box and freezer; $39,400 released; $200,000 project cost; August 2023 completion date.
• Keaau High School ADA improvements; $800,000 released; $800,000 project cost; February 2023 completion date.
• Hawaiian Home Lands lot development, statewide; for construction of residential lots for La‘iopua Village 4 Subdivision, Phase 2, in Kealakehe; $11.128 million released; $13.9 million project cost; February 2023 completion date.
• Major pavement improvements, statewide; $8 million released; $74 million project cost; various completion dates.
• Rockfall and flood mitigation projects, statewide; $2 million released; $6 million total cost; June 2023 completion date.
• Structural evaluation of bridges, statewide; $3.7 million released; $35.5 million total cost; June 2022 completion date.
• State transit-oriented development planning, neighbor islands; $450,000 released; $450,000 project cost; January 2024 completion date.
• Department of Human Services; master plan update, infrastructure needs and contaminated soil mitigation for Lanakila Housing in Hilo; $550,000 released; $550,000 project cost; November 2023 completion date.
• Department of Education; new bell and public address systems in various schools statewide; $2.5 million released; $2.5 million project cost; various completion dates.
• Waimea Middle Public Conversion Charter School ADA improvements; $300,000 released; $300,000 project cost; February 2022 completion date.
• Waimea Middle Public Conversion Charter School; upgrade of electrical and telecommunication systems; $1.2 million released; $3.52 million project cost; August 2025 completion date.
