Vaccination incentive
Given the recent resurgence of COVID-19 via the Delta variant and the catastrophic effect it’s having on the unvaccinated, there should be a financial incentive to get everyone vaccinated.
No, I’m not talking about giving them money to get the shot. I’m talking about those over the age of 18 who still aren’t vaccinated that get this disease.
Those in this state who still haven’t gotten off their butts and done the right thing should be forced to pay out-of-pocket when they do end up getting COVID and seek medical attention at an already burdened medical facility!
If you’re too lazy, stupid or have some lame-ass excuse why you don’t want to get the shot, then you shouldn’t get free health care when you suddenly contract the virus and force the state, health care workers, hospitals and insurance companies to foot the bill for your stupidity!
Everyone else that has gotten the shot has done so because it’s our kuleana, and we care about those around us. I don’t want to hear some lazy excuse.
I have several underlying issues, and I did my part to keep myself safe as well as those around me. The only reason why people are still unvaccinated is out of foolishness and stupidity, and now it should come at a financial cost that insurance and the state shouldn’t have to shoulder!

Bad idea
Just curious. Which genius at the Highways Division decided it’s a good idea to do roadwork on Highway 130, Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.?
Probably the same person who thought putting a traffic signal at Shower Drive was a stellar idea. Perhaps the sign meant to read 7 p.m. to 4 a.m. Now that makes sense!

‘Open the door’
While I can sympathize with Barbara Moore (Your Views, July 20) about Danny Buckingham, we need to remember he had broken into an empty home he didn’t belong in.
The police announced they were there. They found a door locked from the inside. The officers had no idea what or who was beyond the door and did their best to prepare for whatever it may be.
Upon forcing the door open, an officer is attacked and slashed with a knife. The officer reacted as I believe anyone would, and defended himself.
Far more people are killed with knives than guns. Whether one round or 13 rounds, the goal for a police officer is to protect the public and be able to go home at the end of the day and not to the morgue.
When the police tell you to stop where you are, we need to realize they mean exactly what they say. When they tell you to open the door, open the door.
