During the week of May 10-16, Hawaii Island police arrested 17 motorists for DUI. Three of the drivers were involved in traffic accidents. None were younger than 21.
During the week of May 10-16, Hawaii Island police arrested 17 motorists for DUI. Three of the drivers were involved in traffic accidents. None were younger than 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, nine; Puna and South Hilo, three each; and South Kohala, two.
So far this year, there have been 477 DUI arrests compared to 327 during the same period last year, an increase of 45.9%.
There have been 295 major accidents so far this year compared to 306 during the same period last year, a decrease of 3.6%.
To date, there have been 10 official traffic fatalities compared to eight for the same time period last year, an increase of 25%.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
