The Lei Day Festival is coming back to Kalakaua Park with limited hours and a limited crowd.
On Saturday, people can celebrate Lei Day with live entertainment from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the downtown Hilo park. About 35 people will be allowed in the park at a time.
“We wanted to bring back this long-standing tradition in some way this year, and this was the most accountable way to do it,” said K.T. Cannon-Eger. “We will be keeping a count of people throughout the day and will let people in when others leave.”
The entrance for the festival will be on Kalakaua Street with the exit on Waianuenue Avenue to help staff keep track of the amount of people at the park.
Although the festival will be smaller in size, there will be local entertainment as well as lei demonstrations centered on Hawaiian culture.
