To inspire real conversations, along with educating and empowering the public about the importance of advance care planning, Mayor Mitch Roth proclaimed April 16 as National Health Care Decisions Day in Hawaii County.
The Advanced Health Care Directive Committee, a grassroots initiative of Community First, conducted a free workshop April 11 via Zoom for the communities of Kohala, Waimea and Honokaa. Community organizations, churches and medical facilities in these areas helped with the effort.
The workshop explained, step-by-step, the information necessary to legally document your health care wishes should you become unable to communicate because of a medical crisis. Individuals with a living will, health care power of attorney or existing AHCD learned how to review their document to ensure it meets their current needs.
The committee will be conducting another free Zoom workshop June 16. Details are available on the Community First website at communityfirsthawaii.org.
