Education briefs for March 16

• Michaela Fromme of Hakalau was among the more than 1,800 students named to the Biola University dean’s list for fall 2020. Students at the La Mirada, Calif., university are placed on the dean’s list to honor those with a GPA of 3.6 or higher while enrolled in 12 or more credits and whose cumulative GPA is at least 3.2.

• Seth Fukushima of Hilo received a bachelor of science degree in health science and Icher Pule-Annes of Hilo received a bachelor of arts degree in kinesiology from Whitworth University in Spokane, Wash.

• Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, awarded Callie Oyama of Hilo with the honor of academic excellence for the fall 2020 semester. More than 4,500 students received the honor in the fall, signifying they maintained a GPA of at least 3.5. Of those, approximately 1,400 students earned the distinction of high academic excellence for maintaining a 4.0 GPA. Only 27% of students earned an academic excellence award for the fall, with just 8% of those students receiving the honor of high academic excellence.

• John Narruhn of Hilo was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2020 semester at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill. To earn dean’s list honors, an undergraduate student must carry 12 or more credit hours and achieve a 3.5 grade-point average or higher on a 4.0 scale.

• Jyson Breitbarth of Hilo was among 258 students at Northeast Community College in Norfolk, Neb., named to the dean’s honor list for the fall 2020 semester. Students named to the honor list must have earned a grade-point average of 3.75 or above and be enrolled for at least 12 credit hours.

• Hannah Duggan of Honokaa was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2020 semester at the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Ky. To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours, maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 and be in good academic standing.
