Three new cases were reported Sunday.
According to Hawaii County Civil Defense, five individuals are currently hospitalized.
“The island and state of Hawaii remain one of the safest places in the United States,” Civil Defense said in a message Monday afternoon. “Mahalo for your kokua in following the preventive measures that have seen us through for these past months. We need to stay healthy with exercise, fresh air, sunlight, cleanliness, and continue to follow the preventive policies of face coverings, distancing, and limiting gatherings of no more than 10 people.”
Civil Defense on Sunday also reported an additional COVID-related death on the island, bringing the total number to 51.
Statewide, 46 new cases of the coronavirus were reported Monday, bringing the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 21,028.
Hawaii County has a test positivity rate of 1.4%, compared to the statewide positivity rate of 2.4%.
According to a cluster report issued Dec. 24 by the DOH, in the prior two weeks, one cluster associated with a restaurant led to nine COVID-19 cases on the Big Island.
COVID-19 testing will be available from 3-6 p.m. Wednesday at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo and from 2-6 p.m. at Konawaena High School.
