Police and Army explosive ordnance disposal personnel on Friday took a military projectile to Pohakuloa Training Area for disposal.
According to police, they received a call at about 1:20 p.m. Thursday from a plumbing contractor who found a “large bullet” — 10.5 inches long and 3.5 inches in diameter — while clearing a property on Lawai Road in Hilo’s upper Kaumana area.
Police advise anyone who find explosives to leave them alone and call police at 935-3311. Police, in turn, will contact the military to dispose of the explosives.
