UH-Hilo athletics is trying to do its small part to rock the vote.
None of the Vulcans’ 12 programs will hold workouts Tuesday in order for student-athletes to participate in Election Day, a school release said.
The NCAA passed a measure in September that made it mandatory for Division I schools give to student-athletes the day off from practices, and a similar move was proposed by the UHH Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and approved by athletic director Patrick Guillen.
“I wholeheartedly support the UH-Hilo SAAC recommendation to suspend all athletic related activity on Tuesday,” Guillen said in a release. “I know it represents the voice of our student-athletes who through this motion have expressed their desire to increase their civic engagement to create positive change at the local, state and federal levels.”
