Corliss Diedre Griep, 73, of Pahoa died Oct. 5 at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, she was a former accounting clerk for the County of Kauai and member of the Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Services on Kauai at a later date. Survived by son, Diedrick (Glena) Griep of Kapaa, Kauai; sister, Sharolyn (Malcolm) Knight of Kauai; step-father, William “Papa” (Whitney) Sanders of Texas; companion Gene Kawai, Jr. of Pahoa; eight grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Hisao “Monte” Kaya, 97, of Papaikou died Oct. 15 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Papaikou, he was a retired crop control superintendent for the former Mauna Kea Sugar Company and member of Taishoji Soto Mission Kyodan, Orchid Isle Dance Club, Hawaii Ballroom Dance Club (Hilo Chapter), Yamaguchi Kenjin Kai, Papaikou Silverton Community Association, Silverton Kumiai, Kamana Seniors Dance Club and Papaikou Community Senior Club. Russell “Russ” Vernon Painter, 88, of Honokaa died Oct. 17 at home. Born in Niles, Mich., he was an owner and farmer of Hale ‘Io macadamia nut farm, retired computer programmer for Lockheed and U.S. Air Force Korean War veteran. No services. Survived by wife, Hiroko Inami; daughters, Karen Riches, Laura Painter and Mary Campbell; siblings, Marilynn Hatcher, Priscilla Soderestedt, Carol Weller, Douglas Painter and Dennis Painter; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Robert “Bobby” Rosario, 86, of Papaikou died Oct. 16 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Hilo, he was a retired motorized serviceman for the former Hilo Coast Processing Company, member ofSt. Joseph Catholic Church, and U.S. Army Korean War veteran. Visitation from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Funeral Service at 10 a.m. Military honors at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 Pavilion at 11:30 a.m.; burial to follow. Facemasks and social distancing required. Survived by sons, Russell Rosario and Andrew (Jolanda) Rosario of Mountain View; hanai son, Davis Brandt of Hilo; daughter, Roberta Rosario of Papaikou; brother, Abel (Dolores) Medina of Hilo; sisters in-law, Antoinette Saragosa and Susan Rosario of Hilo; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Visitation services for the late Lucino Salboro Gomera Sr., will be held 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Visitation from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa. Memorial Mass at 9:30 a.m. Military honors at the East Hawaii Veterans Pavilion and burial at Cemetery No. 2 at 12 p.m. Facemasks and social distancing required.
