With great joy, the congregation of Hilo Coast United Church of Christ in Honomu recently installed the Rev. Joseph Medlin as the church’s settled pastor.
“This church has been serving the people of the Hilo/Hamakua Coast in Honomu since 1894,” said church council moderator Calvin Motoda. “We are very excited to continue our ministry under Pastor Joe’s leadership and encourage everyone in the area to visit us.”
Medlin earned his master’s of divinity degree at Campbell University Divinity School in North Carolina. He served at First Congregational Church of Rockaway Beach, N.Y., for more than nine years before relocating to the Big Island to serve at Hokuloa UCC.
In May 2015, Medlin completed a psychoanalytic psychotherapy residency at the Blanton-Peale Institute and Counseling Center. Today, he integrates his clinical training with volunteer pastoral counseling for parishioners and is committed to working with all age groups in this diverse island community.
